The surgical suture material may be braided or twisted. The sterile, non-absorbable surgical suture material is made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and coated with polybutylate. The coating provides a smooth surface, facilitates passage through tissues, and generally improves the handling characteristics of the suture material. The empirical molecular formula of the polymer is (C₁₀H₈O₄)ₙ.

The suture material is intended for general soft tissue approximation and ligation, including use in vascular surgery, ophthalmic surgery, and neurosurgery.
